MultiCare Health System became the first major health system to locate in Covington with the construction of a 100,000 sf outpatient multi-specialty center in 1993. In December 2009, MultiCare filed an application with Washington State Department of Health proposing to add 58 inpatient beds and a freestanding Emergency Department to their Covington campus. The Certificate of Need approved in December 2010 permits up to 58 beds.
Collectively, this project creates an overall environment of wellness, functionality, and integration with the existing building, as well as the community and future needs and configurations.
The first phase of the project consists of a single story, 24,000 sf freestanding emergency department addition to the existing 111,389 sf four level facility. It included associated sitework revisions to accommodate new and displaced surface parking, re-routing of below grade utilities, stormwater management, and new landscaping and sidewalk layouts. Phase 2 includes the construction of the shell and core inpatient tower, including the 58 inpatient beds.
