“I was looking forward to the experience of a large office with a variety of projects and scopes to gain experience with. Being in a firm allowed for a much more real-world approach to architecture, and was a far more practical application than the very conceptual world of school. I was also promised cookies, food, and a view of Rainier.
Since joining CollinsWoerman, I've definitely grown; I think my hair has grown about 8” and changed colors about twice. Your confidence also expands tenfold when you’re asked to do something outside your skill set and nail it. I mean, I’m always a boss, but it’s nice when someone else confirms it.
My favorite experience would have to be Arlan (co-founder) trusting me with this proposal for a master plan at a ski resort and cranking it out in 10 days, in a super conceptual but also fairly literal design. Between the thrill of a short-term project, being able to do a hand-rendering for it, and the way my ideas were valued, it was probably my favorite thing I’ve worked on."
